The Reflection on Hope: Day 4
Introduction
Reflections on Hope is a 5-day devotion on what God has to
say to you and me about how he uses our struggles to form in us perseverance,
character and a living hope anchored in the nature of God the Father, in the
work of Christ on the cross and the current work of the Holy Spirit in our
hearts.
Day Four: Hope
Scripture: Romans 5:3-5 (NKJV) - “And not only that, but we
also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and
perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put
us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts
through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
Devotion
Out of character flows hope. This is not a flimsy wish, but
a confident expectation rooted in God’s faithfulness. As our character is
refined, our hope grows stronger and more steadfast.
Imagine a tree planted by streams of water. Its roots go
deep, drawing life and strength from a constant source. Our hope is like that
tree, deeply rooted in the unchanging nature of God. As we grow in character,
we experience His faithfulness more profoundly, which in turn strengthens our
hope.
Hope is the anchor for our souls, firm and secure. It holds
us steady in life’s storms, reminding us that no matter how fierce the winds,
we are safe in God’s hands. The Hebrew word for hope is Tikvah, and this word
gives a word picture of a cord like that Rahab gives the Israelite spies. In
another words in Hebrew “hope” carries an idea of something strong and
dependable in times of need.
When we hold on to that rope called Hope, we are sure that
it is held by our God who is strong enough to hold it at all times and so loving that he won’t let go
of the rope. What an assurance!
Prayer
Father, thank You for the hope that anchors my soul. Help me
to remain steadfast in this hope, trusting in Your promises and your unfailing
love. May my life be a testimony of Your faithfulness, a beacon of hope to
those around me.
Amen.
