Is the Church of Rwanda Ready for the Veterans World Cup?
Rwanda is preparing to host its biggest event yet: the Veterans World Cup. Seventeen nations will participate, bringing 6,000 people, including 150 football legends. There will be 20 games and three world-class forums on Health, Peace, and Tourism, among other topics. Imagine the bustling streets of Kigali, filled with tourists, hotels busy with check-ins and check-outs, and the vibrant nightlife on display. Knowing my country, I can proudly say that there is no doubt this event will be spectacular.
My big question to you, reading this article, is this: Is
the church of Rwanda ready?
Are we prepared to welcome these tourists, whom Christ died
for? Can we see the Veterans World Cup as a Gospel opportunity? As our nation
has become a hub for tourism, meetings, and big events, there is an opportunity
for the church of Rwanda to welcome these visitors to our churches and take the
Gospel to the pitch, highways, and byways.
But is the church of Rwanda ready to use this event to
advance the Gospel?
Imagine if we engaged in serious evangelism. Picture old
men, women, young men, and women fearlessly handing out Gospel tracts, doing
street evangelism, and sharing the Gospel with those around them. Imagine
evangelists strategizing on how to reach out to these beautiful souls, for whom
Christ died, who might not yet believe the Gospel. Picture our churches open on
Sunday, filled with non-believers we invited while watching the games.
We have several choices here. We can avoid all
this and act as if nothing is happening. Or, we can fully engage by buying
tickets, preparing Gospel tracts, enjoying football games, and evangelizing for God's glory.
Allow me to leave this here. It is high time for believers
in Rwanda to open our eyes to see the huge Gospel opportunities God is giving
us and actively engage with people from every nation and tongue coming to our
land.
By the way, you are a part of the Church of Rwanda. If you
are not ready, then the church is not ready. I pray that you and many of us would be ready to evangelize seriously during the Veterans World Cup.
