For the Battle for the hearts we pray.

Now that I have kissed her forehead and the children are tearing as they say goodbye, now that I have looked back three times to send a flying kiss as they wave behind the dim light and heavy fog, I call you, Lord—hear these prayers from your proud soldier. 

Heavenly Father I pray that you will 

Fasten the belt of truth around my waist, sharpen my sword with the Word of your Spirit, that it may cut through the stony hearts before me. Shield me with the breastplate of righteousness as I go to defend your Gospel. Place upon my head the helmet of salvation, that the angels may cover each step and wage wars of protection on my behalf. 

Guide my feet, O Lord, not to conquer lands, but to claim hearts and minds for your kingdom. Train my thoughts and eyes to see your vision and watch for your direction. Lead me to higher ground, where my steps will be steady and the stray arrows of doubt will not pierce through my faith. Teach me to storm the fortresses of pride, sin, and ignorance, for they have held these souls captive for too long. 

Open my ears that I may hear your trumpet and war cries as I engage in this battle for truth. Shield me from my own ego, that I may not fight for my glory but for yours alone. Give me strength not to falter, that I may swing my sword boldly at the enemies of the truth. 

Though the words in my mouth may fail me, fill my heart with love so that even in silence, my tender heart will proclaim your glory. Give me courage, Lord, to rush in as the dust rises from the feet of my fellow men, running in exhaustion. Give me a heart for the wounded and the weary, that I may carry them to safety when they can no longer stand. 

As the night comes, wash the blues from my mind and breathe within me heavenly melodies. Inspire those who keep watch through the night to hold the line and keep the fire burning. Send reinforcement past the enemy’s lines—angelic warriors—to sow confusion in the enemy’s camp and protect our mission. 

Lord, lead us through this last night as we claim hearts and minds, not through force, but in wisdom and love. By the power of the Spirit, we shall raise the banner of your truth and lift the cross above the enemy’s strongholds.

In the name of my Lord and General Jesus Christ, I pray.
